BHS Alumni Sign Up

Dear Alumni, Welcome back to BHS! We are glad to have you here. Certainly this will be a memorable weekend for you. Whether you chat with classmates and friends you see regularly, or spend time with those who have moved from our community and return only occasionally, you will surely recall memories of things that haven’t come to mind in a while.

Time marches on. The schools change over time, as does everything The Lincoln School is now an apartment building, though at least it hasn’t changed much in appearance on the outside, and most importantly wasn’t torn down. The oldest of the schools, the Schuyler School, built in 1902, is now our Schuyler museum. It still very much resembles the school it once was, with the most popular display no doubt being the class pictures that hang in the hallway. The annex (Schuyler Community Center) is available for community or family gatherings.

The Burlingame Historical Preservation Society was formed with the intention of saving the Schuyler School from being torn down or renovated for other use, and thus became the Schuyler Museum. The museum features Burlingame school memorabilia, railroad, coal mining, Santa Fe Trail, military, household, farming, and fire department artifacts. Some reference materials are also available for area history and genealogical research. There is also a small gift shop offering caps, tote bags, Burlingame and Kansas ornaments, magnets, bookmarks, and other items in limited quantities. All items are reasonably priced.

The objectives of the Burlingame Historical Preservation Society, Inc., is to preserve and maintain the Burlingame area history, oral or written, buildings, Santa Fe Avenue, historical sites and artifacts, and make it available to the public to further their education and knowledge of the Burlingame community and its history.

It has taken numerous hours of hard work and dedication by many individuals to bring the organization to where it is today. But there is still much to be done. The task of day-to-day operation and future plans still lie ahead. The operation of BHPS relies on the fund-raisers of the organization, the membership dues, donations and memorials received throughout the year. No tax monies are received. This certainly limits the ability of what is possible to achieve. Therefore, the Burlingame Historical Preservation Society has established a Foundation Fund as a step to establish long-term financial security.

We need your help. We invite you to become a member of the BHPS or to make a donation to the general operating fund or the foundation fund. Your support will help ensure the ability of the BHPS to continue its mission. By becoming a member or making a donation of $25 or more, you will also receive a quarterly newsletter for the current year. A membership form is included with this letter. Thank you for your support.

We invite you to reminisce with friends at the museum on May 28,2022. Museum hours for the weekend will be Saturday 10 am-5:30 pm and Sunday 1-4.

Again, best wishes for an enjoyable reunion. Sincerely, BHPS
